The benefit to not eating before bedtime is that it won’t settle in your stomach, rather than burning off right away. Make sure you are leaving at least three hours between your last meal and your bedtime. That should give your body enough time to burn the calories without leaving you hungry.

Caffeine is another culprit in the battle of weight loss. Studies show that caffeine can make you burn fat at a slower rate.

Do not be embarrassed to leave a plate half full when trying to lose weight. Despite what you mother told you, eating everything on your plate can have negative consequences on your weight. It’s perfectly acceptable to use a doggy bag for your leftovers. Do not overeat and do your best to prepare a small portion. If you feel full, stop eating.

Building Muscle

If you are more concerned about losing weight than building muscle, focus on cardiovascular exercise. Cardio exercises can help you with muscle strength, but they are most efficient for burning fat. To lose weight, elevating your heart rate and respiration are more helpful than building muscle mass.

Begin your weight loss regimen with a cardiovascular routine. Typically referred to as “cardio”, it covers a variety of types of exercise that increase the heart rate, such as running, bicycling or walking. Increasing your heart rate for 30-40 minutes per day will help increase your fat burning abilities and improve your health. At least 3 to 4 times a week, you should incorporate some kind of cardiovascular activity for around 30 minutes.

Your weekly weight loss goal should be about one pound a week. Any more than a pound each week is too fast. If you lose weight too fast, that is not good for your health; it is also more likely you will gain all of it back again.

When you have food cravings, suck an ice cube – this is an excellent way to prevent you from piling on the pounds. This is an effective way to reduce the urge to snack as it distracts your mouth and makes your brain think that you are eating.
